How to Play Rummy Roots

2-4 Players

Pre-Roots is played like "Go Fish".  Players learn the English meanings of 42 Greek or Latin roots. Using roots that are familiar, such as micro, phone, tele etc. even the youngest of players, will enjoy the words they learn. Alphabetizing skills are developed at this level.

Level 1 Players combine two Greek or Latin root cards together to form English words. (Example: Auto + Graph = Autograph)  At this level players begin to use the Dictionary Guide Words in the Roots Word Lists and are introduced to the vocabulary words used in levels 1, 2 and 3.

Level 2 Players learn the definitions of 2 root combinations. The “Stump Card” is incorporated to introduce the "Roots Dictionary”. Finding words increases dictionary skills in fun and easy way.

Level 3
Similar to regular "Rummy". Players add 3 root card combinations from the Roots Dictionary”.  (Example:  Auto + Bios + Graph = Autobiography) Players are able to take cards from opponents. This stretches Players from familiar words to those of higher difficulty and receive double points for their efforts!

1 Player
